(Celler de Capcanes Cabrida Montsant) ($65; 100% garnacha, reportedly from vines 70 to 105 years of age and a crop level of 16 hectoliters per hectare) Ruby-red. Superripe aromas of cherry and plum liqueur, complicated by espresso, bitter chocolate, floral oils, exotic baking spices and vanilla. Then amazingly fresh and juicy on the palate, the dark fruit flavors taking a brighter turn and picking up notes of minerals and smoked meat. Finishes sweet and expansive while remaining focused and fresh. 92 points |
