(Mulderbosch Vineyards Shiraz Stellenbosch) ($69; blended with 10% petit verdot) Bright, full ruby. Perfumed aromas of blackberry, licorice, mint, pepper and woodsmoke. Juicy, peppery and sharply delineated; classic and classy syrah, dry, juicy and sappy. Finishes long and brisk, with firm tannins and a late note of woodsmoke. More syrah than shiraz in style. Aged 18 months in 50% new and 50% once-used French oak. 90 points |
