(Mas Igneus Priorat Costers de Mas Igneus) ($68; 65% garnacha and 35% cari?ena, from the winery's oldest hillside parcels, all planted between 1901 and 1920) Bright, full ruby. Extremely deep, vibrant aromas of roasted black and red fruits, dark chocolate and plum liqueur. Offers almost confectionery sweetness on entry, then primary and brooding in the middle, with black fruit and licorice flavors kept under wraps by lively acidity and tough tannins. The same wine from a decanter was markedly sweeter and suppler in the middle palate, and showed excellent acidity on the bracing finish. (Fine Estates From Spain, Dedham, MA) 93 points |
