WS: Firm and a bit muted, with earthy flavors more prominent than the modest cherry fruit. Best after 2007. 10,000 cases imported. –HS |

WA: The backward 2004 Shiraz The Footbolt offers a deep ruby/purple color in addition to scents of black currants, licorice, roasted meats, and spicy herbs in its well-made, deep, medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic style. This effort will benefit from another year or so of bottle age, and should keep for 7-8. Importer: Gavin Speight, Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 258-9552 |

($19) Ruby-red color. Youthful aromas of crushed blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry preserves. Fat, unctuous and sweet, the dark berry flavors taking on an almost confectionery quality, with nary an earth or herb tone to be found. Like liquefied black raspberry jam on the finish, with a velvety texture and a total absence of rough edges. Very good value. 90 points |
