IWC: By Stephen Tanzer
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Issue #135, November/December 2007)
(Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba Fides) ($39; just 700 cases produced, from vines planted in 1992 on a limestone-rich Barolo site in Serralunga) Good ruby-red. Musky, vinous, aromatic nose features redcurrant and leather. Quite suave on entry, then considerably richer in the middle palate than the basic 2006 barbera, with solid minerality providing definition and energy. Lush but light on its feet. Finishes broad, with rather gentle tannins and noteworthy aromatic persistence. 89 points |
