WS: Sliced lemon and Seville orange on the nose, with honey and syrup. Full-bodied and very sweet, with lots of botrytis, dried mushroom dust and honey on the finish. Very intense. Even better than from barrel. Best after 2013. –JS |

WA: The 2007 de Malle takes time to coalesce in the glass: a subtle Sauternes with honeysuckle, orange-blossom, a touch of white peach and a hint of quince. Good definition, but boy, does it take time to unfurl. The palate is well balanced with good acidity and levels of botrytis, perhaps just missing the complexity and depth on the finish that I was hoping for, linear at this stage, but it should blossom with ageing and there remains the palpable sense of mineralite on the finish that it showed back at primeur. Drink 2014-2030. |

IWC: ($49) Deep yellow-gold. High-pitched aromas of ripe pineapple, quince, wild herbs, flowers and spicy oak. Thick and broad but fresh, with decent clarity and shape to its slightly liqueur-like yellow peach and quince flavors. Still some earthy and sugary notes to be absorbed, but the firm finish suggests that this will repay some aging. 89 points |
