WA: From a narrow combe comes the 2005 Pommard Chaniere, smelling of candied cherry and well hung game, filling out nicely but firmly on the palate with abundant, fine-grained tannins, and finishing with firm meatiness, slight rusticity of tannin, and an alkaline mineral note. I’m hoping this just needs time to sort itself out and recover from December bottling, particularly since the 2004 was outstanding.
After tasting the succulently satisfying and reasonably-priced wines that first-generation vintners Catherine and Claude Marechal turned out in 2004, I was keen to meet them and not disappointed at the quality of their latest crop.
Also recommended: 2005 Chorey-les-Beaue ($35.00; 86), Aloxe-Corton (unknown; 86+?).
