WA: As I have said before, this is a wine for those with 19th century tastes. However, the rustic tannins and overwhelming earthiness seem to have taken over the fruit now that it is in bottle. Decidedly inferior to what barrel samples revealed, this wine exhibits a dark plum color as well as distinctive, loamy, forest floor, truffle, and new saddle leather notes interwoven with notions of plums and black currants. Medium-bodied and austere, harsh tannins and a streak of herbaceousness run through the flavors. It should last for 15 or more years, but I worry about the tannins always being intrusive. |
