($45; a 95/5 blend) Deep red. Spicy blackberry and boysenberry aromas are spiked by cracked pepper, licorice and dried flowers. With its peppery dark berry flavors, this channels the northern Rhone, but there's impressive sweetness and New World exuberance here too. Juicy, pliant dark berry flavors dominate the long, youthfully firm finish. More energetic and focused than the outstanding 2003 version, with more sweetness as well as vivacity and clarity. 92 points |
