WA: The finest wine proprietor Christian Dauriac has made from this estate (although the 2003 may prove to be even better), Destieux is normally a rustic, full-throttle, muscular, structured offering. However, the 2001 combines power with finesse and charm. It offers wonderfully sweet, pure fruit in addition to well-integrated tannin, acidity, and wood. The result is an outstanding effort exhibiting a dense purple color along with a big, sweet nose of melted licorice, black currants, blueberries, incense, and spicy wood. Dense and medium-bodied, with a layered texture, it should drink well in 2-3 years, and age beautifully for 10-14. Bravo! |
