Noteringar:
2009-09-24 07:40 IWC: Saturated ruby. Room-filling bouquet of dark berry compote, pipe tobacco, printer's ink and licorice. Broad and impressively deep, with liqueur-like blackberry and boysenberry flavors, velvety texture and slow-building tannins. Seems to be as much a solid as a liquid, with strong echoes of dark berry and cherry preserves on the finish. I'm not sure how this would work with food but there's no ignoring its palate presence. (90-93) points
2009-09-24 07:40 WA: Even more profound than the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Renaissance, is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, made from 100% Grenache vines from sandy clay soils (the vines are between 70 and 85 years of age). This wine is aged completely in older small barrels. It is a candidate for the wine of the vintage. Dazzling in all respects, it boasts an inky/ruby/purple color, which is amazing given that this is all Grenache. It demonstrates the power of tiny yields and old vines. The extraordinary nose of crushed rocks, framboise, creme de cassis, and kirsch is dramatic. As the wine sits in the glass, notions of acacia flowers, licorice, and incense also make an appearance. On the palate, this is a wine of unreal concentration, a true elixir with a full-bodied style, yet incredibly fresh and well-delineated. There are oodles of concentrated red and black fruits, plenty of Provencal typicity, and a blockbuster finish that lasts well over a minute. This is prodigious stuff that should age into a monumental bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape in 7-10 years. It should live for two decades after that. As I have indicated over the last few years, this is one of the superb newer producers in Chateauneuf du Pape. Their cellars are in the village of Courthezon, which is located adjacent to the very northeast sector of the appellation. Their 2007s are spectacular wines. This superb Chateauneuf du Pape producer also fashions tasty Cotes du Rhones and Cotes du Rhone-Villages meant to be consumed during their first few years of life. 2009-09-24 07:41 WS: This is loaded with exotic layers of blueberry, crushed plum, fig and boysenberry fruit, all held together by well-embedded acidity. The long, creamy mouthfeel lets graphite, anise and spice notes define the finish. Gorgeous. Grenache. Best from 2010 through 2030. 500 cases made. –JM
