WA: The outstanding 2005 Zinfandel Old Vines, basically a blend of old vine parcels that are not big enough to be sold individually, reveals a dark plum/ruby color, oodles of sweet cherry, plum, licorice, pepper, and spicy characteristics, medium to full body, and a fleshy, generous, well-endowed personality. Enjoy it over the next 4-5 years. Previously recommended: As indicated last year, 2004 was a terrific vintage for Turley Zinfandels. If they can still be found, I would opt for purchasing them over their lighter 2005 counterparts. ($25) Moderately saturated, bright red. High-toned, perfumed aromas of red cherry and spice. A sweet, creamy fruit bomb in the mouth, but still a bit tight and restrained, with good clarity and cut to the black cherry flavors. Finishes with very good persistence. 90 points |
