WA: Cheval Blanc’s second wine, the 2005 Le Petit Cheval, possesses some of the character of its bigger sibling. Revealing a slight green streak among the cranberry and black cherry fruit along with medium body and a soft, plush texture, it is ideal for drinking over the next decade. |

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/June 2006, Issue #126
(Chateau Cheval Blanc Le Petit Cheval) (55% merlot and 45% cabernet franc) Good deep red-ruby color. Currant, smoke and chocolate on the nose, with hints of shoe polish and licorice. Juicy and lively in the mouth, with firm acidity and a solid tannic spine. A bit youthfully austere today, but finishes with noteworthy persistence. Very promising for this second wine. WS: Has a gorgeous nose of blackberry, sweet tobacco and green olive. Medium- to full-bodied, with seamless tannins and a long, pretty finish. Needs a little more concentration to be outstanding. Already very enjoyable. The second wine of Cheval-Blanc. Best after 2011. –JS |
