IWC: By Stephen Tanzer
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Issue #132, May/June 2007)
(Joseph Phelps Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley) ($55) Good deep ruby-red. Blackcurrant syrup, menthol and nutty oak on the nose. Rich, creamy and very ripe, with high-toned black fruit flavors nicely framed by sound acidity. Quite substantial for this bottling. Finishes with building tannins and a sizable structure. This has turned out well. 90 points |

WA: An elegant style, with ripe, vibrant currant and black cherry fruit that's well-defined, keeping the focus on the fruit while adding a cedary oak overlay. Drink now through 2012. 25,000 cases made. –JL |

WA: From a more flashy, flamboyant vintage, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses loads of up-front fruit, soft tannins, and plenty of alcohol. Low acidity and ripe tannin result in a plump style of Cabernet to drink over the next decade. Previously recommended: 2002 Insignia (95), 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard (96+). Tel.
