Noteringar:
2007-06-09 01:59 WS: This plump red defies a poor vintage to offer black cherry, cedar and tobacco notes on a generous frame, with firm but not drying tannins and a spicy finish. It shows the flavors of maturity, but is a long way from decline. Drink now through 2009. 8,500 cases made. –TM
2007-06-09 01:59 WA: The current release of Vega Sicilia’s flagship offering, the 1991 Unico Reserva, will have to satisfy lovers of this great Spanish red until the 1994 is released in 2005. The 1991 is a gorgeous, deep ruby/purple-colored, remarkably youthful effort offering sweet vanilla notes intertwined with black currants, cherry liqueur, flowers, spice box, and tobacco leaves. Full-bodied and intense, with sweet tannin, outstanding density as well as purity, and a layered mouthfeel, this unevolved 1991 needs another 3-4 years of cellaring; it should last for 20-25 years. It’s a wine of great elegance as opposed to power.
2007-06-09 02:00 IWC: By Stephen Tanzer Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 04 ($337) Dark red. Highly complex nose melds plum, cherry, roasted meat, iron, truffle, mocha and underbrush. Broad, sweet and concentrated, but not at all an exotic or supersweet vintage for Vega Sicilia. In fact, this smooth midweight has some rather intriguing, cool notes of minerals and botanical herbs. Finishes with fine, dusty tannins and excellent length. A much more polite style of wine than the chewy, powerful and considerably more explosive '89.
