Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Issue #128, September/October 2006)
(Rottlan Torra Priorat Tirant) ($87) Light red. Highly perfumed aromas of raspberry, strawberry, redcurrant and minerals, with complicating notes of tobacco and mocha. Pure, balanced and light on its feet but utterly packed with deep, concentrated red fruits. Finishes fresh and pure, with fine, almost sweet tannins and superb length. A wine of remarkable clarity, sweetness and balance. 93 points |

WS: Sweet fruit is balanced by fresh acidity in this bright red. Blackberry and plum flavors are a bit jammy, but the firm backbone gives it structure. Drink now through 2011. 1,500 cases made. –TM |

WA: The 2003 Tirant is a similar blend as the Amadis. Fermented in foudre and aged in French oak for 12 months, it is a more refined version of the Amadis with more complexity and elegance, but nevertheless still a beast of a wine. The purple/black color is followed by aromas of melting tar, blueberries, blackberries, and a touch of vanillin. The wine is dense and rich with layers of flavor, the tannin well hidden by the fruit. Give this bad boy another 4-6 years of cellaring and drink it for 15 years thereafter.
